About the event

Program: Visions of Hope: The 1939 New York World’s Fair. The presentation explores the fair from a social and political perspective as the world was on the brink of war. This was to be the greatest industrial and cultural exposition of the century. New technologies were being introduced in communications, transportation, agriculture and manufacturing.


In March 1939, the eyes of the world were turned toward New York. A spectacular “World of Tomorrow” was rising, promising a future of peace, science, and prosperity. While the Fair was famous for industrial wonders like Elektro the Moto-Man, it also served as a defiant global stage for Jewish identity and the dream of a homeland.
