Program: Hanukkah and December Shabbat: Never Again Means Now:  The Age of the American Pogrom

Speaker: Brian Hoffman is a farmer from Wooster who attended law school at The Ohio State University and worked in the office of Governor Ted Strickland before beginning his legal career. After several years in private practice, Brian helped launch a series of pro bono legal services projects, first serving women and children seeking asylum from a 55-acre private detention camp in Texas, and then with the Southern Poverty Law Center at a notorious private prison in Georgia. In 2020 Brian became the founding executive director of The Ohio Center for Strategic Immigration Litigation & Outreach (OCSILiO - pronounced "auxilio"), the only nonprofit in the state whose core mission is to provide free legal services to people in immigration custody. Over the years, Brian and his work have been featured in The Guardian, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, CNN, NPR, and a variety of other media outlets.

Food: The JSC will host an OnegShabbat with Hanukkah treats! The Mandel JCC is a kosher facility and does not allow outside non-kosher food, plates, cups, or serving utensils. Join us for an engaging evening!

JSC Guest Policy: We love having guests join us! Guests are welcome to attend two complimentary events (lifetime). After that, the fee is $20.00 per Shabbat. Fees paid may be credited towards an annual JSC membership. Learn More Today!

Directions: Enter the JCC campus from S. Woodland. Rd. As you pull into the driveway, follow the signs for Stonehill Auditorium which is on the left side of the building, past the Early Childhood Entrance. Park in the lot on the left across from the entrance. Security provided by JFC Security, LLC, security provider for the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
